Almost There

Shanandoah RV Park

Wednesday we traveled toward our next stop in VA.  The brake controller was still blinking so we called Coachnet RV service, asking for a repair service place near Roanoke.

The lady on the other end of the line made us an appointment at a place in Salem, VA which was about 30 miles from where we were: Snyder's RV service.  She had already talked to "Jerry" and told us to call him to confirm.  He gave us directions and said they would stop what they were doing and look at it as soon as we got there.

When we arrived, a man at least 80 years old met us in the service department. Dennis asked him if he was Jerry and he said, "what's left of him…."
He said we probably had a loose wire and someone will look at it.

The secretary here is at least 75. I am sitting in the office and Jerry calls, "Sandra!"  She says she can't get any work done for someone always calling for her.  She says, "I am way past retirement age.  I should just retire and be done with it." She is evidently the sales person, too, because Jerry wanted her to talk to a man interested in buying a new RV. This place has probably been here 50 years.
Sammy is their full size poodle who is standing by me watching me type on my mini ipad into the diary.
Jerry told Dennis he was angry at Camper World in Roanoke as they took all of his workers and salespeople. Guess that's why Sandra still has to work.  Oh, they did have one young man left in the shop who fixed our problem and we went on our way.

Stopped at a Pilot Truck stop for gas. A man with Truck Stop Christian Ministry was passing out small New Testaments with Psalms and Proverbs.  Trying to decide whether to keep it or leave it somewhere at another stop for someone.

Arrived safely Mount Jackson. Brake controller working well.
Very nice park with good views.
Did some laundry.

Bought apples that had been picked  just a couple of days before.
Very good Galas.

Thursday, traveled to Thousand Trails RV park near Hersey,  PA.
During the first half of our trip that day we drove through Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and entered PA   - all on a ninety mile stretch of road.
Hershey Thousand Trails RV Park

Park here at Lebanon is beautiful.
Largest RV show in the country is this week and the park is full, but nice wide sites and lots of trees.  The last thing we need to do is look at any more RV's so we will spend our time doing something else.

Hershey Chocolate
On the way to the Hershey factory today we noticed that the street lights in town were in the shape of Hershey Kisses.  We also took a trolley tour of Hershey and area.  On the trolley we drove to Milton Hershey's birthplace and his home and heard how he began making chocolate.  He and his wife were not able to have children so they founded the Milton Hershey School.  It is a school for underprivileged and orphan children running from pre-K through 12th grade. The children live in houses with houseparents and attend school on the grounds separate from the local schools. Upon graduating if they have done well they will be given a computer, clothing and money for college. The school was funded at the beginning when Mr. Hershey gave 77% of the stock in Hershey Chocolate to the school. This still applies today with money from the business going to a foundation to run the school. So when you buy Hershey's chocolate you are donating to the school.

So you know what the largest selling Hershey product is?  If you guessed Hershey chocolate bars that is a good guess but they are number three.  If you guessed Hershey kisses that is an even better guess.  They are number two.  If you guessed Reese's peanut butter cups (nobody does) you would be right.

On the way back to camp we stopped at a local farmer's market and got local corn to grill with steaks tonight and a pumpkin.

Tomorrow to New Jersey - New York!
